Nestled in the Sierra Foothills of El Dorado County, Holly’s Hill Vineyards specializes in Rhone varietals. Owners Tom and Holly Cooper’s enthusiasm for Rhone varietal wines started when they shared their first bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape on their honeymoon and was the inspiration for their Patriarche.
This varietal contains Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache and Counoise. The Wine Enthusiast Magazine gave it a score of 90 points.
Aromas are soft, earthy, and a slight woodsy eucalyptus combined with fruits of cranberry, cherry and blackberry. The wine is creamy with nice fruit that lingers in the mouth and finishes with fine tannins. This wine can be laid down for up to 10 years but is certainly enjoyable right now. This wine is very versatile with most foods and goes particularly well and grilled meats.
Robert Parker describes it best, “This sexy, soft, earthy, berry fruit driven wine possesses plenty of spice and pepper notes…a tasty California interpretation of a French Côtes du Rhone”.
Chris Macias, Sac Bee “…a blend dominated by Mourvedre and Syrah, sung with its cherry fruit and lovely mouthfeel. No wonder why this wine nabbed a best of class award at the California State Fair.”
